Harvesting takes place in October of each year. At this time of year, ginseng roots contain nearly twice as many active principles than if they had been harvested in the summer. During harvesting, the six year old roots are pulled up, washed and dried. Keeping to traditional techniques, the growers allow them to dry in the sun after cleaning, to protect them from bacteria and mould and subsequently be able to store them. After the drying process, the roots are packed hermetically and transported to Europe.
Leaving nothing to chance, each year ORTIS sends its expert on site, to ensure that every quality criteria have been complied with, both during the growing and processing and during the transportation of the roots.
The transportation is also audited by SGS, an independent firm specialising in inspecting the quantity and quality of goods and related services. At the end of the audit, each parcel is sealed, which means that ORTIS can guarantee that the products from Manchuria reach Belgium intact.
